‘Wrongdoers’ beg for tolerance, reader says

To the editor:

I didn’t see Peggy Treft’s letter regarding the “marriage amendment,” but I don’t feel the need to in order to respond to Nancy Stanfill’s comments about gay marriage.

Sadly enough the difference between right and wrong in this country is becoming increasingly blurred as the wrong doers beg for tolerance. Sadder still, some of those who call themselves Christians can’t even tell the difference.

Yes, there is evil all over the world. This doesn’t mean that we should be tolerant of it when it is close to home as is the threat of gay marriage. We are all threatened by it.

According to the word of God, homosexuality is wrong, plain and simple. We are to love the sinner but hate the sin, not be tolerant of it. Nancy, if your church teaches tolerance, then you belong to a “people pleasing” church as opposed to a “God pleasing” church.

Yes, the church should open its arms to all of God’s creatures.

But not so we can tolerate or judge their sin, but so that people can learn the word of God and turn away from sin. What we would be teaching our children by legalizing gay marriage would be that the word of God doesn’t matter.

How are we to tell our children that just some of God’s laws are to be obeyed?

God gave us laws as to how we are to live our lives in order to avoid the problems we are encountering today. We all need to live by them.
