Work starts to replace water main in Crestwood

Missouri American Water crews began work this week on replacing about 5,000 feet of a 16-inch diameter water main along Old Sappington Road and New Sapping-ton Road between Watson Road and Eddie & Park Road in Crestwood.

The replacement work is slated for completion in late November, according to a news release issued by Missouri American Water.

The project will replace a water line that is roughly 60 years old with a new section of ductile iron pipe.

The work is part of Missouri American Water’s proactive water main replacement program, designed to identify and replace water lines that are at the end of their useful lives, the release stated.

Replacement projects are selected based upon their community benefits, including reducing water main breaks and improving the overall integrity of the water system in the area.

Missouri American Water maintains about 4,200 miles of water mains in the St. Louis area.

Missouri American Water invested more than $20 million in St. Louis area water main improvements during 2009.

Drivers may notice some closures of the northbound lane of both Old and New Sappington during the projected three-month construction period.

When possible, lane closures will be timed to minimize disruption of rush-hour traffic, the release stated.
