Garden Villas South Retirement Community resident Julia Frank recently celebrated her 104th birthday.

It’s not unusual to find Julia socializing with friends at happy hour, playing bingo or cards or attending the many parties in the activity room, according to a news release. She never misses the weekly Sunday Mass and continues to cheer for the Cardinals.

“Julia is an amazing woman,” Activity Director Jeannie Lorne stated in the release. “She is loved by all and a friend to everyone she meets.”

Julia was born March 21, 1907, in St. Louis. She attended Lafayette Grade School and then went to work as a clerk at a local dime store. She met and married Arthur Frank and had two beautiful daughters, Laverne and Shirley.

“No, I didn’t name them after the television show,” Julia said with a grin.

Julia and her family enjoyed traveling and spending time volunteering at St. Agatha Church.

Sewing, playing cards — mostly pinochle — quilting and following Cardinal baseball have been favorite pastimes for Julia.

These interests have not changed as she is a very active resident at Garden Villas, where she continues her volunteer work in the privacy of her apartment, embroidering blocks for quilts that her church raffles.
