Will oppose Mehlville board members who support property sale

To the editor:

Shame on the Mehlville Board of Education and Superintendent Chris Gaines for creating a dangerous situation and destroying the beautiful campus of Oakville Middle School and Wohlwend Elementary School.

I live one street north of the proposed Aldi. I’ve lived there since 1960 and every day I observe many middle school students walking north on Telegraph Road — no sidewalks — after dismissal at 2:50 p.m.

If this plan goes through, when a member of the school board is up for re-election, he or she will not receive a “yes” vote from me.

As far as wanting to sell the property for $815,000 to buy a home adjacent to Oakville Elementary School, regardless of if on Yeager or Milburn roads, those homes are old and not big — no property is worth that money in that area.

I’m a retired secretary from Oakville Junior High School — seventh and eighth grades — where I worked for 22 years until the end of the 1998-1999 school year.
