Weber Road Branch County Library to close for six months

Branch will close for six months for renovations

The Weber Road Branch County Library will close for six months beginning March 2, as part of the countywide Proposition L renovations across the St. Louis County Library system.

Library officials recommend that patrons of the Weber Road Branch at 4444 Weber Road in Affton use the Tesson Ferry Branch Library at 9920 Lin Ferry Drive in Green Park instead.

The library is gutting and renovating every branch that does not get a new building to add features similar to those being built at Grant’s View, including a new entrance, a “living room,” a cafĂ©, a teen area and expanded children’s area, a single large meeting room and two study rooms.

The six months that Weber Road patrons will use the Tesson Ferry Branch could be the last six months Tesson Ferry is open, since it is slated to close this fall to make way for its replacement across from Grant’s Farm, the Grant’s View Branch Library.

All the county libraries except Tesson Ferry and Lewis & Clark, which are being replaced with new buildings, will close for six months in stages over the next few years for top-to-bottom renovations that will give them the appearance of a brand-new, modern interior.

“I would certainly prefer that the libraries stay open, but from what I understand, the renovations are such and so extensive that they have to close them,” County Executive Steve Stenger told the Call about Weber Road’s closing.

The Cliff Cave Branch Library in Oakville will also close for six months, beginning in August. Patrons there will be advised to use Tesson Ferry and, after it closes, Grant’s View.
