VIDEO: Memorial garden created for Bierbaum Elementary fire victim

A garden dedicated to the memory of a student who died in a house fire is now a permanent fixture at Bierbaum Elementary School in the Mehlville School District.

The fire happened last October at a residence on Hinder Drive. Seven-year-old Brian Davis got trapped in the burning home and desperate efforts to rescue him were not successful, according to a district news release. At the time of the tragedy, Brian was a second-grade student at Bierbaum.

On Saturday, a memorial garden was created right outside of Brian’s classroom. The garden will have a plaque in memory of Brian and three benches where students and teachers can sit.

Brian’s parents were on hand to see the garden being created.

His mother, Laura Davis, stated in the release, “It’s made a big difference for us knowing that everyone saw what we saw every day. It just makes us know how loved he is, still to this day.”
