The Class of 2013 from Mehlville Senior High School and Oakville Senior High School enjoyed a festive send-off Sunday as both schools conducted graduation ceremonies that had to be moved due to area storm damage.

The St. Charles Family Arena had been booked to host the graduation ceremonies, but a Friday night tornado damaged the building. Rather than delay the events for a week, Superintendent Eric Knost decided to hold graduation ceremonies in the district, according to a district news release.

Using the Mehlville High School football stadium was not an option due to summer renovations, so the Oakville High School football stadium served as the graduation site. Due to space limitations, graduating students were bused to the event and guests were limited to five per student.

Knost thanked the crowd at each graduation for their patience and flexibility to the changes caused by the switch in locations, the release stated.

During separate ceremonies, school administrators praised students at both schools for their academic and charitable accomplishments during their four years in high school. Each school awarded more than 400 diplomas to the graduating students.
