The St. John Vianney High School baseball team topped Hickman 8-2 in the Class 5 Missouri state championships earlier this month.
The Griffins began the game trailing behind 0-2 after the first inning, but ended up topping Hickman 8-2 in the June 1 Class 5 Missouri State Baseball Championship game at Car Shield Field in O’Fallon.
Last season, the Griffins were knocked off the path to state in semifinals by Fort Zumwalt West with a score of 4-3. That near-miss motivated the team to go farther in the playoffs this season.
