Urges ‘sensible people’ to speak out Aug. 3

To the editor:

On Aug. 3, Missourians will vote on a statewide marriage amendment that defines marriage as being between a man and woman.

Many special interest groups are screaming about rights — rights to gay marriages and rights to erase all mention of God. The following are two articles from the ‘Bill of Non-Rights,” written by a state representative:

• “Article II: You don’t have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom — for everyone.”

When rights overlap, the question becomes “where do one person’s rights end and another person’s rights begin?”

Here, voting and “majority rules” come into play.

• “Article XI: You don’t have the right to change our country’s history/heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. Yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all.”

When filibustering the Federal Marriage Amendment, one senator said messing with the Constitution shouldn’t be taken lightly.

The same goes for marriage. Marriage was established by God — Adam and Eve — and recognized again in the Ten Commandments. “Honor thy father and mother.” Sodom and Gomorrah attempted to redefine it. Look what happened to them.

The “Bill of Non-Rights” ends: “Sensible people of the U.S. speak out. If you don’t, who will? Vote — it’s American.”
