Urge county officials to approve sale of parkland to national cemetery

To the editor:

Please heed this call to action. At issue is whether the county should sell 38 acres of Sylvan Springs Park to the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

If the sale goes through, the park would still be 32 acres in size.

If the cemetery gets the land, it is estimated that it will be able to bury our veterans until 2041. This is, by definition, a long-term solution.

Please contact 6th District County Councilman Kevin O’Leary at koleary@stlouisco.com or (314) 615-0159 or County Executive Steve Stenger at sstenger@stlouisco.com or (314) 615-7016.

Please tell them to do everything in their power to approve the sale because our veterans deserve a final resting place.

Time is of the essence. Stenger has said that he will state his position on this issue at the end of the month. I’m sure Stenger and O’Leary are hearing from the vocal minority. It’s time for the silent majority to be heard.

Please do your part for our veterans.
