Unswayed by column on anonymous opinions

To the editor:

I read your little item calling everyone that writes a letter and does not sign his or her name a gutless coward.

I truly hope you are not as firm a supporter of this belief as you seem to be. If you just check your own statements you will see why many people would not want to sign their name.

I have found over the years that while most people will join a crowd that has the same ideas as themselves, there is only a small amount of people willing to voice an opinion that may not be popular.

This does not mean that the anonymous opinions are not correct; it may just mean that individually the person is not willing to be made fun of by someone like you or be harassed by people who don’t agree with them.

Each day it seems that there is someone new willing to put their name with the opinion that there are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It is too bad that so many people have died. Perhaps if newspapers would have presented anonymous views back when this was building, more people would have realized that they did have support and would have been willing to voice their opinion back then when maybe it could have helped.

My opinion on this subject has always been that Bush went into Iraq because Saddam wanted former President Bush killed because of the first invasion.

While this was a reason for him to dislike Saddam it does not give him a right to have our brothers and sisters killed to settle this disagreement between the two families.

I hope you will rethink your attitude and realize that most people are not as tough as you are when it comes to claiming their opinion, but it does not mean they should not be heard.

The unsigned opinion may get people thinking and help them realize they are not alone in thinking different than what certain newspapers or news shows are putting out.
