Two Sunset Hills panels to meet for city-manager workshop

Sunset Hills residents will have a chance to learn more about how a city-manager form of government might work for the city at a workshop next week.

At a joint session of the Personnel and Finance committees, a representative of the St. Louis County Municipal League, along with a mayor and city manager from another city, will give a presentation on what it is like to work with a city administrator or manager.

The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at City Hall, 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Since the meeting is only a “fact-finding session,” no votes will be taken that night, said Ward 1 Alderman Dee Baebler, who chairs the personnel panel.

At city workshops, no questions are taken from the public, but residents are welcome to attend.

Committee officials have been weighing the idea of switching to a city-manager form of government since former City Clerk Laura Rider left the city in April.

Some aldermen are leaning toward the idea, but Mayor Mark Furrer is opposed because he believes it would add another layer of government to City Hall.
