Two local youths attend Boys’’ State of Missouri

Two local youths are attending the American Legion Boys’ State of Missouri this week on the campus of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.

The two youths are Nicholas J. Amelung and Robert Royer.

Amelung, 17, is sponsored by American Legion Post 111.

He has completed his junior year at St. John Vianney High School and was selected based on his leadership and citizenship skills.

His accomplishments include receiving the Marianist Award and the Order of the Griffin. He is a member of the National Honor Society and served as Student Council president three years and will be vice president his senior year.

He is the son of Don and Chris Amelung.

Royer, 17, is sponsored by American Legion Post 300. He has completed his junior year at Oakville Senior High School and was selected based on his leadership and citizenship skills. His accomplishments include becoming president of the National Honor Society and earning top awards in speech and debate.

This honor student attended the Regional Teen Institute Leadership Program and is a member of HiSTEP, the Student Council, the Key Club and the Jazz Band.

He is the son of Bob and Annette Royer.
