Twin sisters Angie and Rose Mantia have spent 96 years figuratively joined at the hip.

Born on Dec. 12, 1907, they will have 96 candles to blow out Friday. Both of their parents immigrated from southern Italy as the twins were the first generation of their family to be born in the United States.

Angie’s daughter, Joyce Manning, described her mother and aunt as inseparable — so inseparable the twins married brothers. Angie married Sarow Mantia and Rose married Tony Mantia.

Between the two sisters, they had four children, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grand children. The pair have lived within five homes of each other their whole lives and for 50 years, the women ate lunch and played gin rummy daily.

The two made a living by sewing in St. Louis plants and have been retired for 35 years.

The two now are roommates and Residents of the Month at Bethesda Southgate in Oakville.

“Angie and Rose are delightful and they certainly liven up our facility,” Ruthann Wolz of Bethesda Southgate told the Call. “They are just too cute.”
