Twelve graduates in Lindbergh High School’s Class of 2005 earned the prestigious International Baccalaureate diploma.

The 12 graduates are: Amanda Appel, Matthew Brimer, Chundra Cathcart, Lo-renzo D’Aubert, Sarah Dyen, Trinity Fry, Paul Nauert, Mallory Nezam, Bronwyn Ritchie, Jessica Sparks, Emanuel Taranu and Brady Vaughan.

This is the largest group of IB diploma recipients in at least 10 years, according to Honors Coordinator Irv Mueller. To receive the diploma, students sit for exams in six areas of study, including English, foreign language, history of the Americas, biology or chemistry, calculus, and a sixth class that can be a second foreign language, science, computer science or IB art, music or theater arts. They also complete a 4,000-word extended essay, a course on “Theory of Knowledge” and participate in 150 hours of service-oriented activities.

“I hear back from many of these students via e-mail that they are well prepared and doing quite well in school,” Mueller stated in a district news release. “They often re-port that they are surrounded by students from private schools, but they feel they are ‘holding her own’ because they are well prepared from taking IB and AP courses. When they get to college, they really recognize the value of the IB diploma and the preparation they received at Lindbergh. They are well ahead of the game.”

The diploma recipients now attend a wide variety of challenging institutions: Appel, University of Evansville, Ind.; Brimer, Yale; Cathcart, University of Chicago; D’Aubert, Fry and Ritchie, St. Louis University; Dyen, Stanford; Nauert, Harvard; Nezam, Occidental College; Sparks, University of Southern California; Taranu, Truman; and Vaughan, Knox College.

Lindbergh seniors in the Class of 2006 also are preparing to take IB exams next spring. The nine IB diploma candidates are: Olivia Engel, Grace Finlinson, Aud-rey King, Brent Lang, Philana Le, Meg-an Powers, Anna Vandielen, Rachel Wald-emer and Felicia Williams.
