Truman student earns Gold Medal in Midwest Taekwondo Championships

Truman Middle School sixth-grade student Kiley Mehringer displays the Gold Medal she earned for the Youth 10-11 Heavyweight Division in Sparring.

Truman Middle School sixth-grade student Kiley Mehringer recently won the Gold Medal for the Youth 10-11 Heavyweight Division in Sparring at the Michigan Midwest Taekwondo Championships in Warren, Mich.

The event featured athletes from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica, according to a news release.

At Truman, Kiley is an A student in the Lindbergh Eager Achievers Program, an Academic All-Star and also a Triple Crown winner. She has been training in Taekwondo since she was 5 years old and studies at Master Kim’s Martial Arts in Kirkwood under Master Woo Kim and Master Matt Workman. Kiley is also a member of Team Taiga, an elite sparring team, under Master George Sloan in Arnold.

She trains five days a week and hopes to someday make the national team and even the Olympic team.
