Truman Middle School was the only middle school in Missouri to earn Exemplary Gold status this year from the Missouri Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, or MOAHPERD.
Exemplary Gold is the highest status a school can receive, according to a district news release. The award recently was presented to the Truman Physical Education Department. Accepting the honor were physical education teachers Tino Hatzigeorgiou, Johnna Wieter, Tracey Handal and Jeff Baumgartner.
Only three K-12 schools received the award this year, the release stated. Truman earned the prized status by showing evidence of MOAHPERD’s 12 criteria, such as curriculum, policies, time requirements, facilities, educator practices and professional development.
