Truman Middle School has been recognized as a 2014-2015 Mix It Up Model School for its efforts to team up, plan and implement all-inclusive Mix It Up events throughout the year.
Mix It Up Model Schools embrace respect and inclusiveness, according to the organization’s website. They serve as an example for other schools who are planning to host a Mix It Up at Lunch Day.
Students took “color” personality tests during their Flyer Time character education classes, and used the results of those tests to sit with others who shared their personality traits. Students discovered they have more in common with their peers than they may have realized, a news release stated.
Mix It Up is sponsored by Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
