Zack Jones, 18, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Gravois Trail District of the Greater St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Jones, the son of Don and Karen Jones, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 824, which is chartered through Washington Middle School.

During his Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Arnold Recreation Center, he was presented with a resolution from the Missouri House by Rep. Jim Avery of Crestwood.

Avery also announced that the flag flying over the state Capitol that day was in honor of Jones’ accomplishment of becoming an Eagle Scout. The flag would be taken down and presented to Jones on a later date.

Jones’ Eagle project involved planning, coordinating and managing other scouts to build two large storage cabinets for the Mehlville Senior High School Band.

He has been active in Scouting since the second grade. As a Webelos in the Cub Scout program, he earned the Arrow of Light Award.

He earned 36 Boy Scout merit badges and contributed many hours of service each year as a volunteer for Scouting activities. Jones also has received the World Conservation Award and earned membership into the Order of the Arrow. His leadership positions include den chief, scribe, patrol leader and quartermaster.

Jones attended six summer camps. Two of those were out of council at Medicine Mountain in South Dakota and Camp Goshen in Virginia. He also has successfully completed three one-mile swims.

This past summer he made his first venture to the Philmont High Adventure Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico, hiking more than 100 miles in 10 days.

Jones is a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where he’s active in the youth group. A 2007 graduate of Mehlville High, he played on the football and wrestling teams and maintained honor-roll status throughout all grades.

Jones will attend the University of Central Missouri, where he will major in secondary education to teach industrial technology and minor in history.
