To the editor:

Lindbergh High School students, faculty, and administrators have suffered a great deal in the past few weeks with the death of one student allegedly at the hands of another.

I commend the district for its timely, sensitive handling of this tragic situation.

Grief counselors were made available at the Homecoming Dance, even before Erin Mace’s name was released to the public. Students and faculty were given opportunities to meet with these counselors throughout the week following Erin’s death.

A beautiful musical montage created by Erin’s friends was shown to the entire student body, and those who did not attend her funeral were allowed to line the street in front of the school to pay their respects as her funeral procession passed. (Super-intendent) Dr. (Jim) Sandfort sent a heartfelt letter to Lindbergh parents, enclosing lists of resources to help a teen-age son or daughter with grief, with depression and with relationships that become uncomfortable or dangerous.

As a parent of one Lindbergh graduate and two current Lindbergh students, I have been impressed with the handling of this extremely difficult situation.

I offer my condolences and my thanks to everyone involved.
