Three Republicans seek nomination in second district congressional race

Staff Report

Three Republicans — including incumbent Todd Akin of Town and Country — are seeking their party’s nomination to the 2nd District congressional seat in next week’s primary.

Challenging Akin, who is serving his fifth, two-year term, in Tuesday’s primary are Bill Haas of St. Louis and Jeffrey Lowe of Wentzville. Haas unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination to the 2nd District seat two years ago.

The primary winner will square off against Democrat Arthur Lieber of St. Louis and Libertarian Steve Mosbacher of Manchester in the November general election.

None of the Republican candidates responded to a Call questionnaire.
