Three Oakville High students and one Mehlville High student have been selected as National Merit Scholarship Corp. semifinalists.

This is the 60th year for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which honors students for their academic, community and leadership efforts.

The three Oakville High students are Madeline Goser and twin sisters Emma and Ellie Sona. The Mehlville High scholarship semifinalist is Alena Buczkowski.

Goser, the Sona twins and Buczkowski are all seniors. Each is still considering several options regarding their choice of universities and fields of study.

The four rank among roughly 16,000 students nationwide who received this honor in 2014.

The four students are among 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools who entered the ’15 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

They now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
