Thirty-eight earn Bright Flight Scholarships

Based on their achievement scores on the ACT and SAT college-entrance exams, 38 Mehlville School District high school seniors have earned the Missouri Higher Education Academic Scholarship, also called the Bright Flight Scholarship.

Oakville High students earning the Bright Flight Scholarship thus far are: Vincent Colletti, Marcus Deckert, David Ferry, Joseph Ferry, Mindy Harris, Justin Hendershot, Laura Hurlburt, Natalie Jones, Jill Kammerer, Tracy Knierim, Jane Kohnen, Jason Korte, Todd Kulage, Kevin Lewman, Michael Maniaci, Victoria Otto, Andrew Richardson, Robert Royer, Tracy Sambo, Brenda Thacker, David Thurau, Rachel Todd, Stephan Tomlinson, Stephen Van Pelt, Ryan Wichern and Amie Wilcoxen.

Mehlville High School students earning the Bright Flight Scholarship thus far are: Stephen Boyer, Hasan Chowdhury, Jessica Hammerstone, Karen Hines, Carla Hoppe, Shellie Huether, Camila Khan, Nathaniel Marschalk, Shane McCracken, David Mues, Michael Rangel and Erika Sinclair.

The Bright Flight Scholarship is worth $2,000 annually to the students.

To qualify, each student had to score in the top 3 percent of all Missouri students taking the ACT or SAT exam, must be a graduating high school senior who is enrolling as a first-time, full-time student at an approved Missouri postsecondary school, be a Missouri resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, and must not be pursuing a degree or certificate in theology or divinity.

The Bright Flight Scholarship program is administered by the Missouri Department of Higher Education. The above students have qualified based on exams taken through February, according to a district news release.

Additional students may qualify based on exam scores taken through June.
