The 13th annual Lindbergh Spirit Festival will be the biggest and best ever, according to organizers.

This year’s Spirit Festival, which will take place Saturday, May 15, features the theme “Meet Me at the Festival,” and celebrates the 100th anniversary of the St. Louis World’s Fair.

The daylong festival is an all-district event emphasizing family participation and promoting the spirit of community between Lindbergh schools and their surrounding neighbors, according to a school district news release.

“The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 15, with a parade beginning at Sperreng Middle School,” Spirit Festival Director Edward Kienzle stated in the release. “The parade winds its way along Concord School Road to Roxanna, crossing into the Lindbergh High School campus, where game booths, food and spectacular rides await.”

The parade will feature floats with pupils from all of the district’s elementary schools, Mehlville Fire Protection District vehicles, classic cars and other entries.

Entertainment will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until 10 p.m. and will include the Lindbergh High School Marching Band, the A Cappella Choir, Sperreng Jazz Band, the Strolling Strings, the top winner from the Battle of the Bands and much, much more.

The entertainment leads up to the appearance of Night Beat, a premier band provides some of the best live music entertainment in St. Louis. Night Beat performs a diverse, danceable set of standards and hits from the ’50s through today, according to the release.

The Spirit Festival family area includes children’s rides and pony rides, and preschool game booths sponsored by various Sperreng Middle School Clubs. For the elementary children, frog toss, shuffle alley and ring toss will be among the many games available.

Games for the older crowd will be in in the Sports Challenge area and include football pass, soccer kick, home-run derby and an obstacle course.

Ride tickets cost 50 cents each, while some of the more spectacular rides will charge $1.50 and more. Ride bracelets for unlimited rides can be purchased for $20.

Refreshments at the Spirit Festival will include hot dogs, bratwurst, shish kabobs, burgers, pizza, nachos and soft drinks.

During the festival, residents will have an opportunity to save a life by donating blood in the Lindbergh Spirit Festival Blood Drive. The blood drive will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. in Gym 3. Walk-in donors are welcome.

Parking is available at all five elementary schools, the commuter parking lot at Highway 30 and Interstate 270, Sperreng Middle School — after 10 a.m. — and the Affton-Lindbergh Early Childhood Center, 10305 Concord School Road — after 10 a.m. Complimentary shuttle busses will run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

With rides, booths, food and entertainment, the Spirit Festival is a community gathering that promises fun and excitement for all ages, according to the news release.
