Superintendent ‘poor excuse for a role model’

To the editor:

I would like to respond to the recent editorial concerning cellular phone usage in the Mehlville School District.

It appears as though (Superintendent) Dr. (Tim) Ricker and the district have no policy on cell phone usage.

If it is a “checks and balances” as he states, I would take that to mean us as taxpayers write the checks and he and his counterparts balance their checkbooks.

I see no need for cell phones in the district with the exception of possibly the head of our maintenance department.

Maybe Dr. Ricker doesn’t realize that he has a telephone in his office and there are phones at all of the schools in the district.

Also, he is paid a tidy $600 per month car allowance.

And, oh, by the way, has he heard of pay telephones?

They are located at many convenience stores; and if he doesn’t want to leave his luxury automobile, most gas stations have them at a height at which you can pull up, just put your change in the slot provided — it’s up there near the right-hand corner — and dial the number.

You don’t even have to leave your car. Isn’t that special?

And to the person who wrote regarding the teens that vandalized Mehlville Senior High while performing a senior prank, I do believe they are responsible for restitution.

However, are there not people responsible for restitution as well to the taxpayers in this school district for the abuse of cell phones?

We are being taken advantage of.

Dr. Ricker is a poor excuse for a role model for our children.
