The Sunset Hills Conservation Foundation, or SHCF, a recently formed nonprofit dedicated to preserving green space, invites the community to a reception Saturday, Oct. 13, at Sunset Country Club.

The reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. will include an opportunity to view artist’s renderings of a proposed park, as well as cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

The first project that became available for the SHCF is a proposed small dog park at Eddie & Park Road, just adjacent to Enterprise Bank. The SHCF Board of Directors overwhelmingly approved this as the first project on which to raise funds and awareness. A dog park is something for which the residents of Sunset Hills have been asking, according to a foundation news release.

“We are excited to host this first fundraiser for the foundation,” Ron Hack, chairman of the SHCF Board of Directors, stated in the release. “The conservation foundation is focusing on making Sunset Hills a progressive and desirable city in which to live, and we believe that this is a great reason to come together as a community.” 

“The city of Sunset Hills conducted numerous surveys over the years and a dog park rated very high with the residents,” Gerald Brown, director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, stated in the release. “The Park Master Plan was updated in 2010 with the addition of a future dog park and with the assistance of the conservation foundation this may be possible.

“I personally think a dog park will be a wonderful new amenity for the residents of Sunset Hills,” Brown added.

“We want to emphasize obtaining various amenities for the community, including obtaining green space,” Hack stated. “We believe the dog park is a first step in our long range goal of continuing to make Sunset Hills a wonderful place to live.”

The reception at Sunset Country Club will include a cocktail reception, hors d’oeuvres and appetizers at food stations. Tickets cost $100 per person, $180 per couple or $850 for tables of 10. For more information, visit
