Sunset Hills City Engineer and Public Works Director Anne Lamitola submitted her resignation last week.

Lamitola gave official notice of her resignation Oct. 23 in a memo to Mayor Bill Nolan.

“My notice period stands at two weeks and three days, resulting in my last day of employment as Nov. 9, 2012,” Lamitola wrote. “Please be assured that I will do all I can to assist in the transition period.”

Lamitola accepted the position of public works director in Ladue. She began working in Sunset Hills on March 1, 2007.

“I have nothing but deep appreciation for the vast experience that I have garnered serving this great city during these last five years,” Lamitola wrote.

Lamitola told the Call she is “extremely grateful” for the “extensive experience” she gained with Sunset Hills.

“I’m very appreciative for the time served and all the exciting projects I got to work on and be a part of,” Lamitola said. “I’m going to miss everyone at Sunset Hills.”

Nolan told the Call Lamitola has done a “tremendous job.”

“She’s enthusiastic and she’s spirited and she gets into what needs to be done pretty thoroughly …,” he said. “She’s done a fine job for us.”

The mayor said Lamitola has been a “vital part of the organization and the city.”

During her five years with Sunset Hills, Nolan said Lamitola has overseen almost $3.5 million worth of stormwater work, along with overseeing the construction of the Community Center and the city’s new pool.

He also said she inherited a “good, experienced staff.”

In seeking a replacement, Nolan said he will meet with Ward 3 Alderman Stephen Webb, who also serves as Public Works Commission chairman, and Ward 1 Alderman Richard Gau, who also serves as Personnel Committee chairman, and a member of the Public Works Department to discuss the position.

For the city engineer and director of public works position, Nolan said the mayor appoints an individual with the approval of the Board of Aldermen.
