Students in Washington Middle School’s Green Architecture class set up a sustainable garden they designed and planned last week. The students installed the irrigation system, finished the assembly and setup of worm farms and added worms, moved compost bins into place and filled them with composting materials, and located large sticks and small branches to turn into mulch, then chipped the mulch themselves. This garden project provides the opportunity for students to apply the math and science skills they’ve learned to a real-world experience that benefits their school community.
They will compost cafeteria food in the compost bins, with help from worms.
