The Lindbergh High School Strolling Strings have been invited to perform at the Stirling Bridge International Youth Arts Festival in Stirling, Scotland.

The music festival will take place from July 5 to July 13 and features performers from around the world. The Lindbergh High School Strolling Strings have been specifically invited by the selection committee.

“This is an amazing honor for our kids and the Lindbergh music program as a whole. Very few acts are given this opportunity to perform on such a global stage. We’re all very excited about the opportunity,” Christopher Livesay, musical director for the group, stated in a news release.

The Strolling Strings repertoire and their shows reflect the ideals of keeping string music relevant to the younger generation by incorporating arrangement of current hits and string-oriented performers, while including classic fiddle tunes that rekindle interest in the folk tradition of fiddling, the release stated. The group brings this diverse repertoire to a variety of audiences, thereby earning its keep to cover its expenses and providing multi-generational audiences a lively performance that bridges the culture references between the young and old.

The Lindbergh High School Strolling Strings is a group of 31 Lindbergh High atudents who share a passion for making music of a variety of styles. All members of the Strolling Strings participate in curricular musical ensembles — band, orchestra or choir — at Lindbergh High School and participate in Strolling Strings as an extracurricular activity rehearsing once a week. The group performed around the St. Louis area and traveled to a variety of cities including: Orlando, Fla,; Branson; Memphis, Tenn.; Chicago; Nashville, Tenn.; New York; Louisville, Ky.; and Washington D.C.

The Strolling Strings will be holding two Trivia Night fundraisers on Feb. 18 and March 25. These two events are intended to be the primary fundraising events for the group.

“It’s our goal to raise as much money as possible to help offset the expense of getting all our student to Europe. Plus, it’s a great venue for our students to perform to friends and family,” Livesay stated.
