STL CAPS, South Tech effective partners with Mehlville, reader says

To the editor:
The latest edition of the Mehlville Messenger contains a piece regarding STL CAPS, a multi-district collaboration available to Mehlville School District juniors and seniors.
CAPS offerings are creative, providing students the opportunity to explore career pathways, an important element of an effective high school education. College can be expensive and requires persistence, so having a defined career path is important to successful completion.
South Technical High School is another effective partner to both Mehlville and Oakville high schools, with over 200 students dividing their school day between core academic classes and technical training and career exploration. From nursing, law enforcement, pharmacy tech, welding, robotics engineering and carpentry, South Tech offers 28 different majors that prepare students for college and for career.
STL CAPS and South Tech are effective because curriculum focuses on involving students in real experiences and hands-on projects, something of which Ben Franklin reminded us: Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
