St. Louis man charged in south county credit union robberies

The county prosecuting attorney’s office this week charged a St. Louis man in connection with two robberies that occurred two weeks apart at the same south county credit union.

James R. Byler, 39, of the 7700 block of Vermont, 63111, was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree robbery. Byler is currently being held on a $100,000 cash only bond.

County police responded at 3:30 p.m. July 13 to a call of a bank robbery at Century Credit Union, 1540 Lemay Ferry Road. A man entered the bank and left a note on the counter which demanded money. The subject fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of currency, police said.

Police received another call about a robbery at the credit union at 3 p.m. July 27. As before, a man entered the bank, left a note on the counter which demanded money and fled with an undetermined amount of currency.
