St. Louis County Police South County Precinct to host Citizen Police Academy

The South County Precinct of the St. Louis County Police Department will host a Citizen Police Academy at Grace Union Church, 3900 Union Road.

The nine classes will take place on consecutive Thursdays, beginning Aug. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with graduation on Oct. 11.

Police Chief Timothy Fitch stated in a news release, “The Citizens Police Academy creates the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the officers who serve and protect your community. Participants learn about what steps they can take to avoid becoming the victim of a crime, and they get an inside look at how the county police department operates.

“Instead of relying on television or Hollywood, graduates of these academies can gain personal knowledge and experience in how actual police officers patrol their beats, conduct traffic stops and investigate crime. Classes are instructed by law enforcement professionals in various fields.”

At the end of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion at a graduation ceremony. The free Citizens Police Academy is open to all county residents.

Advanced registration is required and seating is limited. To obtain a registration form or other details, contact Police Officer Michael Schira at (314) 892-1510 or southcountyprecinct@stlouisco.com. Forms also can be picked up at the South County Precinct, 3031 Telegraph Road.

Individuals with disabilities or special needs who wish to participate in this program should contact the Department’s ADA Coordinator at (314) 615-4273 about any questions or accommodations needed to make the meeting site or information accessible.
