St. Justin’s wins volleyball championship

The seventh-grade girls’ St. Justin the Martyr School volleyball team from Sunset Hills captured the Catholic Youth Conference’s South County Volleyball Championship. Seventh-grade girls representing St. Justin the Martyr School in Sunset Hills won all three matches of the recent Catholic Youth Council’s South County Volleyball Championships and were able to bring home the trophy from the post-season playoffs.

The matches were against Immaculate Conception, St. Mathias and St. Francis. All matches were played at St. Francis. The final match was against St. Francis.

St. Francis finished the regular season in first place in Division 1, while St. Justin’s season ended in second place in Division 1.

The team also won the South County title two years ago as fifth-graders.

Team members include Ellen Drazen, Ellen Feicht, Diana Fox, Sarah Haffner, Elizabeth Jaeger, Rachel Meyer, Hannah Minor, Maggie Nestor and Stephanie Wolf. The coaches are Sue Haffner, Mary Feicht and Sara VanHoogstraat.

Many of the girls playing on the St. Justin the Martyr team have been playing together for four years.

The next round of post-season play is the St. Louis Archdiocesan City-County playoffs.
