St. Elizabeth of Hungary School in Crestwood next week will present its annual eighth-grade variety show. “A Celebration of Cultures.”

The fund-raising variety show will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the school, 1414 S. Sappington Road.

Realizing that the United States is a melting pot of nationalities, organizers of this year’s show believed it was appropriate to highlight dances and music from other cultures, according to a news release.

The show will open with a Mexican Hat Dance and a Mariachi Band, followed by an Irish tune sung by an eighth-grader. An African drum call, followed by a short song, will open the second half along with a Greek dance.

The show’s finale will be comprised of music through the decades that has evolved into what might be considered “American Music.” It will begin with the 1904 World’s Fair Song, “Meet Me in St. Louis,” and continue with music from the Flapper era, the Big Band sound, early rock ‘n’ roll, the Beatles, disco and current pop. The finale will conclude with “We Are Family.”

St. Elizabeth of Hungary, which has been open since the late 1950s, will close at the end of the school year, and this will be the last eighth-grade variety show, according to the release.
