Sperreng earns Science Olympiad honors

The Sperreng Middle School Green Team took third place at a recent Science Olympiad Regional Tournament and now will participate in the State Tournament April 28 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Sperreng pupils placed in the following events: Anatomy, Olivia Raymond and Vhidan Srivastava; Awesome Aquifer, Peter Kempf and Alex Avery; Balloon Launch Glider, Cameron Rudolph and Cody Philben; Balloon Race, Alex Avery and Kevin Bock; Disease Detectives, Cody Philben and John Kovacs; and Heredity, Vhidan Srivastava and Mariano Marin.
Also: Metric Mastery, Mariano Marin and Brian Roth; Meterology, Teddy Walters and Jeffrey Mackeen; Oceanography, Alex Avery and Nathan Zinselmeyer; Road Scholars, Mariano Marin and Kevin Bock; Science Crime Busters, Olivia Raymond and Joe Gardner; Science Word, Cameron Rudolph and Peter Kempf; Simple Machines, Mariano Marin and Kevin Bock; Solar System, Teddy Walters and Devon Roberson; and Tower Building, Olivia Raymond and Joe Gardner.
“They have been working really hard since September, and their efforts really paid off,” Melissa Di Fiori, team coach and Sperreng science teacher, stated in a news release. “For the last seven years, Sperreng students have earned a spot at the state competition, which demonstrates their dedication.”
