The Sperreng Middle School Eighth-Grade Band and Eighth-Grade Choir both won first place in their respective divisions at the recent Worlds of Fun Festival of Music in Kansas City.
More than 45 middle school and high school bands and 20 middle school choirs from Missouri, Kansas and Iowa competed in the festival. The Sperreng Eighth-Grade Band, directed by Brian Wyss and team coached by Jeremy McMahon, Dan Arana, David Wyss and Chelsea Silvermintz, earned the highest score possible by all three judges, giving them a perfect score.
This was the first time that any Sperreng band has achieved this honor.
The SMS Eighth-Grade Choir is directed by James Hutson.
