South county woman celebrates 100 years

Born when St. Louis played host to the World’s Fair in 1904, Marie Green will celebrate her 100th birthday July 28.

Originally from Farmington, Green has lived in south St. Louis County for 80 years.

Green was married to the late Oliver Green and together the couple has six children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Her children include Juanita Henry, Oliver Green Jr., Lorraine Weber, Norma Green, Gerri May and Jean Overkamp.

Her family plans to honor their matriarch with an elaborate birthday party July 3 at Overkamp’s home in south St. Louis county.

Green likes to spend time with her family and friends by playing 500 rummy, Chinese checkers and other card and board games.

She also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years in south county.
