• Mary, Mother of the Church, 5901 Kerth Road, will sponsor a Book Fair featuring over 15,000 books today, Saturday and Sunday. A preview with $7 admission will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Admission is free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. From noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, a bag of books will cost $5; the bag will be provided.
• A jitterswing dance will be offered at the Concord Farmers Club, 10140 Concord School Road. Lessons start at 7 p.m. and dancing be-gins at 8 p.m.
• Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 765 Lemay Ferry Road, will offer open prayer sessions from 11 a.m. to noon Fridays, Mondays and Wednesdays.
Saturday, May 20
• The Fenton Protection District will host is annual open house in recognition of Emergency Medical Services Week from noon to 3 p.m. at Engine House No. 1, 845 Gregory Lane. The event will feature engine house and equipment tours, Sparky the talking fire dog and other activities.
• The German Cultural Society of St. Louis will host a Maifest featuring German food and drink, live music and dance performances from 4 to 11 p.m. today and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Donau Park, 5020 W. Four Bridge Road, House Springs.
• The Jefferson Barracks Historic Site will open its newest exhibition, “Over Here: World War 1 from Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis and Missouri,” at noon today — Armed Forces Day — at the Old Ordnance Room Museum, 546 Bagby Road. The exhibition, which includes dozens of authentic objects from the Jefferson Barracks collection and loans that illustrate the period between the Spanish American War in 1898 and President Woodrow Wilson’s Four-teen Points Speech on Jan. 8, 1918, will continue through Dec. 3.
