Thursday, May 24

• Laumeier Sculpture Park’s Conversation Series features Cocktails & Conversation: Mistaken Identities from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Kranzberg Education Lab at the park, 12580 Rott Road. Join visiting artist Addoley Dzegede for a look at wax print fabrics through the history of interactions among Indonesian artisans, Dutch colonialists and West African soldiers.   Laumeier’s Conversation Series offers free informal learning opportunities for adult audiences through lectures and discussions about art and nature with staff members, visiting artists and community leaders. Free, ages 21 and up.

• The SAJE Senior Ministry will offer games and cards from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9373 Garber Road.

Friday, May 25

• The Sunset Hills Aquatic Center, 12512 W. Watson Road, opens for the season from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• The city of Crestwood will hold the “Splashtacular Summer Kickoff” and opening for the Crestwood Aquatic Center from 5 to 9:30 p.m. in Whitecliff Park, 9245 Whitecliff Park Lane. The enjoyable evening of free family fun will feature food trucks, free water-exercise class demos, bounce houses, a photobooth, a face painter, different department vehicles, music donated by DJ Deandre Thomas and a showing of “Moana.”

Saturday, May 26

• The Crestwood Animal Shelter, 9225 Whitecliff Lane, is busting at the seams and invites the public to welcome the summer with a trip to the shelter from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. to meet the shelter’s guests, both dogs and cats. Fiona, Bailey and Petey will delight you with their canine antics, while the cat room will astound you with a “purrfectly” astute ability to charm and convince you that they have found their forever family.

  “Swamper Tales” by Roger Peach will be presented at 1:30 p.m. at the Monroe County History Museum, 724 Elaine Drive, Waterloo, Illinois.  Life on the Southern Illinois county fair circuit was hot and dirty, but seldom dull, as you will see when Peach shares recollections from his new book of larger -than-life characters and dramas, both big and small.

Sunday, May 27

  St. Lucas United Church of Christ is offering a free Community Meal from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the church, 11735 Denny Road. Are you short on food or need a warm meal? Are you a first responder? All are welcome to this family friendly environment. Carryouts are available. • Overeaters Anonymous will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 9907 Gravois Road, Suite E. Enter at the rear of the building.

• The Meramec-Arnold Elks, 1515 Miller Road, will offer bingo at 5:30 p.m.

  Are you confused by all the Medicare information out there? Come and hear David Oswald, licensed insurance agent since 1983, explain what the various options are.  He will present at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 10126 E. Watson, at 7 p.m. in the parlor.  Oswald is committed to helping seniors and families protect their health and financial security. • ZumbaGold dance exercises geared to older adults will be offered by the SAJE Senior Ministry from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary, 1420 S. Sappington Road. The cost is $3 per class. For more information, call (314) 822-4736.

• The SAJE Senior Ministry sponsors chair yoga at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary cafeteria, 1414 S. Sappington Road. The class offers stretching exercises with a Silver Sneakers benefit. The cost is $3 otherwise. For more information, call (314) 822-4736.

• The Crestwood Senior Dance Club meets from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Community Center, 9245 Whitecliff Park Lane. Ballroom, circle tag, round, line and Latin dancing are among the styles featured.  All skill levels are welcome. The cost is $1.

• The Ulysses S. Grant Historic Site will sponsor a free military lecture on Grant and Eisenhower from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Visitor Center, 7400 Grant Road. Speaker John C. McManus is an award-winning professor at Missouri S&T, author and military historian and one of the country’s leading experts on the history of modern American soldiers in combat.

• The Kiwanis Club of South County will meet from noon to 1 p.m. at Frailey’s Southtown Grill, 4329 Butler Hill Road.

• The South County Toastmasters, the local chapter of an international group dedicated to helping members become better speakers and leaders, will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MetLife Building, 13045 Tesson Ferry Road.

• The Gravois Kiwanis Club will meet at noon at Sam’s Steakhouse, 10205 Gravois Road.

• The Rotary Club of Crestwood-Sunset Hills will meet at 12:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Viking, Lindbergh Boulevard and Watson Road.
