Society slates Memorial Day celebration

The Sappington-Concord Historical So-ciety’s annual Memorial Day celebration will take place Monday, May 25, in Memorial Park near Sunset Hills.

The Lindbergh High School Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band will kick off the event at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park, a small grassy area bordered by Gravois, Denny and Sappington roads, opposite Johnny’s Market.

Event Chairman Carl Spinner has arranged to have Randy Ottinger, a veteran helicopter pilot who served in Iraq, be master of ceremonies, according to a Lindbergh School District news release.

Fred P. Harms will be the keynote speaker, the release stated.

Spectators are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and Johnny’s Market will allow parking on its rear parking lot. Parking also will be available on the lot adjacent to Johnny’s Market.

A reception open to the public will take place in the St. Lucas United Church of Christ auditorium, 11735 Denny Road, after the ceremony.
