Smith named Bayless High assistant principal

William Smith has joined the Bayless School District as assistant principal/athletics director at Bayless High School.

Smith comes to Bayless from the Mehl-ville School District where he has served as a teacher at Oakville Senior High School since 2001. Smith, who was the 2005 Teacher of the Year at Oakville High, started in Bayless on July 1.

At Bayless High School, Smith’s administrative duties include overseeing the school’s athletics and activities and assisting with supervision, student discipline and staff development.

Smith holds a master’s degree in secondary education from Lindenwood Univer-sity and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ouachita Baptist University.

He served as principal for the Mehlville Summer Academy this year and as a substitute grade-level principal. At Oakville, Smith was a physical science teacher and helped coach varsity basketball, as well as freshman baseball.
