Colorful tissue paper balloons are ready to float high above Sperreng Middle School as sixth-grade students learned about lighter-than-air flight concepts by building their own functional hot-air balloons. Students in Eric Robb’s technology class first learned about the science and technology that make a hot-air balloon work. Then they built balloons of their own using tissue paper and wire. Robb helped the students launch their balloons using a turkey fryer as the heat source.
