School staff make good on ‘kiss-a-goat’ promise

A promise is a promise at Margaret Buerkle Middle School, so administrators and teachers got up close and personal with a goat last week.

As part of last Saturday’s International Club Festival, students began the “Kiss a Goat to Give a Goat” campaign and pledged to raise at least $600 for Heifer International, according to a district news release.

Heifer International is a charity that provides livestock to impoverished families around the world.

If students reached their goal, Buerkle Principal Jim Kern, Assistant Principal Michelle Wood and several teachers agreed to kiss a goat.

Students raised $613.20 for Heifer International, so apprehensive staffers at Buerkle kept their end of the bargain as dozens of students came out to watch the April 10 spectacle.
