Schoemehl receives Friend of Education Award

Rep. Sue Schoemehl recently was presented the Friend of Education Award by the Missouri Association of School Administrators.

Schoemehl, D-Oakville, was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002 and serves the 100th District.

Schoemehl was nominated for the award by the MASA Greater St. Louis District superintendents. The award recognizes individuals for their contribution to education locally or statewide.

Schoemehl has been a steadfast supporter of public education, sponsoring or co-sponsoring a number of bills that would positively impact public schools in Missouri, a news release stated.

Some of the key issues she has supported include requiring a certificate of value on property; expanding liability protections for school employees and volunteers; implementation of school policies prohibiting bullying, harassment and intimidation of students; exemption of state taxes on school-bus motor fuel; and school funding.

She also has been a proponent of legislation that would permit passage of bond issues by a simple majority.
