Sappington students help clean creek

A total of 48 students and parents from Sappington Elementary School and members of Missouri Stream teams 1857, 3031 and 4220 recently conducted a cleanup of Gravois Creek at Union Road. Trash of all types was removed from roughly 100 yards of the stream and included dozens of plastic bags, rebar and other metal items, a lawn mower engine and a large beer advertising banner. Nine car tires and two bicycle tires also were removed. In all, 700 pounds of recyclable materials and 1,540 pounds of trash were taken from Gravois Creek. The volunteers were assisted by local businesses and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, which provided a trash bin.
