To the editor:

I am saddened and disappointed in the way the Mehlville firefighters seem to be being attacked.

I for one, and I’m sure there are others that have benefitted from their services, commend them for the job they do.

It is a fact that they perform many more services for the community than fighting fires.

They have come to my aid and to the aid of family members and have always been professional, knowledgeable and very kind. I can not speak for all of the Mehlville firefighters, but the ones I have encountered have earned and deserve their pay and benefits as do our police officers.

Is money the only thing that matters to our society anymore? It is a sad set of priorities when we try to take away from those who put their lives at risk for us and our families.

Mehlville firefighters, I applaud the job you do. There are those of us who are grateful for your being there in our times of need.
