Rogers earns Missouri MAP honors

Rogers earns Missouri MAP honors

The results are in, and Rogers Elemen-tary School once again claimed a spot on two of the state’s Top 10 lists for Missouri Assessment Program scores.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education listed Rogers Elementary on the Top 10 list for fourth-grade mathematics scores and for fourth-grade social studies scores. This marks the third consecutive year that Rogers has claimed a position on two of Missouri’s Top 10 lists.

DESE’s annual list of highest-performing schools identifies elementary, middle and high schools with the highest percentages of pupils scoring at the “Proficient” and “Advanced” levels in each subject area and grade level covered by the mandatory MAP tests.

For the second consecutive year, the re-port recognizes schools for sustained strong performance over multiple years – from the year the exam became mandatory in each subject area until 2002.

Each of the four academic areas covered by the MAP – math, science, social studies and communication arts – at each level tested – elementary, middle and high school – has a top 10 list. In addition, the report rates schools in three size categories: less than 250 pupils, 250 to 500 pupils and more than 500 pupils.

Rogers is listed on the list featuring schools with more than 500 pupils.

The purpose of the report is to recognize students and teachers in high-performing buildings and to identify successful schools that can provide effective examples of ways to improve student achievement.

Rogers Elementary has now made the state’s Top 10 list for fourth grade mathematics four consecutive years. With an average percentage of students scoring in the Advanced & Proficient range of 68.0, Rogers actually placed third in the state, far exceeding the state average of 35.8 percent scoring in the Advanced and Proficient range.

On the state’s Top 10 list for fourth grade social studies, Rogers pupils tied for 10th in the state, with 68.4 percent of the pupils scoring in the Advanced and Proficient range. The state average was 39.9 percent scoring in the Advanced and Proficient range. This marks Rogers second consecutive year making the state’s Top 10 list for fourth-grade social studies scores.
