The Mehlville Retired Educators organization recently awarded $1,200 scholarships to two Mehlville School District graduates who desire to enter the field of education, according to a district news release.
The Oakville Senior High School recipient was Kelly Lautenschlager, daughter of Bill and Rita Lautenschlager. She especially was thankful to the Mehlville School District for providing accelerated programs that allowed her to enter the University of Missouri-Columbia as a first-year sophomore.
The Mehlville Senior High School recipient was Melissa J. Weber, daughter of Donald and Marilyn Weber. She knew early on that she wanted to become a teacher as she worked with young students in her church. She also will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Both of the recipients were active not only in their schools, but also in the community.
The Mehlville Retired Educators funded these scholarships by working in the concession stands at various Cardinal games as well as conducting other fund-raising efforts throughout the year.
