Reader writes on abortion, says ‘call it what it is, first-degree murder’

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

How many times have I heard that “abortion is a woman’s right”? May I ask who gave a woman this right? The Constitution?

I think I have read something about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” but not a peep about abortion. Did the U.S. Supreme Court grant this right? Aren’t they the ones who voted for slavery in the Dred Scott case? And who knows how many other cases they have gotten wrong?

The fact of the matter is that when you deliberately stop the beating heart of an innocent child who has not harmed you in any way except by inconveniencing your lifestyle, you will have to answer to God himself, who gave us the sixth commandment (not suggestion): “You shall not kill.” Exodus 20:13.

Stop playing with words. Don’t call it a “right,” for no one has the right to take an innocent life. Step up to the plate and call it for what it really is: First-degree murder.
