Reader wants more Crestwood residents to attend aldermanic meetings

Regarding Mike Anthony’s views on the Crestwood mayor, I am very thankful for freedom of speech so I can make a few rebuttals.

I want more citizens of Crestwood to attend meetings of the Board of Aldermen so they can form their own opinion of the present mayor.

How many people know of the precarious financial mess left from when the late King Don Greer was city administrator, plus police chief? He pushed for a new police building. I was the only person in attendance of less than 10 who spoke against it.

My words fell on deaf ears. So the board passed a big bond issue, $9,800,300.

After two attempts by architects costing $1.6 million for design fees, the plans were scrapped.

It cost the city a total of a little more than $2.1 million to defease the bonds and pay architect fees.

Did the present mayor authorize this expenditure? No. He inherited a financial fiasco.

So fellow citizens, please make serious attempts to make Board of Aldermen meetings. Listen for yourself.

How many of you know the City Charter says no deficit spending? A good New Year’s resolution would be to attend more Board of Aldermen meetings. Do not expect any windfall from Crestwood Court.
